Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy appeals to RTC unions to avoid strikes, cites financial strain

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy appealed to TGSRTC unions not to be influenced by political parties and resort to strikes, warning that even a single misstep could adversely impact the corporation.

“Do not get carried away just because things are falling into place. If there are any issues, the unions can meet the Minister. At this juncture, any strike will result in irreparable loss to the State,” the Chief Minister told RTC unions during May Day celebrations on Thursday.

“We will do our best to address your concerns, if not hand over the State’s income to you. The Finance Minister, Chief Secretary and others will sit with you and suggest which schemes can be taken up and which can be deferred. You set up an advisory board and take decisions,” Revanth Reddy said, assuring that he would not take a single rupee home nor indulge in any corruption.

The Chief Minister explained that the State earns ₹18,500 crore per month. Of this, ₹6,500 crore is spent on debt repayment, ₹6,500 crore on salaries and pensions, and the remaining ₹5,500 crore on welfare and development.

“At least Rs 22,500 crore is required to meet basic needs. If contractors’ bills are to be cleared, the State must generate Rs 30,000 crore. Unfortunately, there is a shortfall of Rs 12,000 crore,” the Chief Minister said, admitting that the financial health of the State is under severe stress and sought the unions’ cooperation.

In sharp contrast to perceptions, he said, the government has been raising Rs 10,000 crore in loans every month just to repay debts and interest.

“How do I run the State government?” he asked. “Not a single scheme has been discontinued, be it Rythu Bharosa, crop loan waiver, Shaadi Mubarak or Kalyana Lakshmi. In fact, we’ve provided free bus travel for women, spending Rs 5,000 crore on that scheme alone, in addition to implementing several others,” he said.

“Just like financial crimes, financial terrorism has taken place. In the last 15 months, we’ve spent sleepless nights trying to bring Telangana back on track,” he said, warning that any attempt to derail the ‘Telangana Rising’ model would not be tolerated.

IPL: Marauding Mumbai Indians make it six wins in a row, Royals out of playoffs race

Openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton struck sublime half-centuries

Mumbai Indians extended their remarkable winning streak to six matches with a 100-run rout of Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League here on Thursday, pushing the home team out of the race for playoffs.

Openers Rohit Sharma (53 off 36 balls) and Ryan Rickelton (61 off 38) struck sublime half-centuries before Suryakumar Yadav (48 not out off 23) and Hardik Pandya (48 not out off 23) went on the offensive to power Mumbai Indians to 217 for two.

Royals, who chased down 210 against Gujarat Titans here three nights ago with more than four overs to spare, never got going in the run chase and folded up for 117 in 16.1 overs. It was Royals’ eighth defeat in 11 games while Mumbai Indians have seven wins from 11 matches. Another victory should be enough to secure a playoffs berth for the five-time champions.

The 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi (0 off 2), who took the cricketing world by storm with his 35-ball hundred on Monday night, was caught at mid-on off Deepak Chahar in the first over of the RR innings. His opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal struck two towering sixes off Trent Boult in the following over before being castled by the New Zealander. It was a procession from thereon.

Jasprit Bumrah, who was brought into the attack in the fifth over, sent back Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag with short balls to reduce Royals to 51 for five inside the powerplay.

Earlier, Rohit and Rickelton put the home team under pressure with a sizzling display of clean hitting. In their 116-run stand, Rickelton targeted the quick bowlers while Rohit went after spinners especially Maheesh Theekshana, who was introduced as early as third over.

Suryakumar and Hardik Pandya capitalised on the openers’ good work to take the team past 200.

Jofra Archer bowled a tight first over but the Mumbai openers collected 18 runs off his second. Notwithstanding the express pace of Archer, Rohit made room to cut the England pacer for a four before Rickleton pulled him for a six over mid-wicket.

The standout stroke of Rickelton’s innings was the nonchalant flick off Fazalhaq Farooqi that went all the way.

Mumbai Indians cruised to 58 for no loss in the powerplay after Rohit dispatched Maheesh Theekshana for back-to-back fours over mid-off. The lofted drive over extra cover from Rohit off Akash Madhwal oozed class.

Left-arm spinner Kumar Kartikeya offered a half tracker to Rickelton and he duly dismissed it off his presence for a six and a well-deserved half-century. Rohit, who did not start the tournament well, is back to his best. He hit a wide delivery from Theekshna over backward point to complete his fifty.

Both the openers were dismissed in quick succession but it was not an issue for Mumbai Indians with plenty of batting to come.

Suryakumar batted like he only can and one of his audacious hits included a scoop over fine leg off Archer that saw the batter falling on the floor. He smashed the last ball of the innings for a six down the ground off Madhwal who otherwise impressed with his yorkers.

The last five overs fetched 71 runs for Mumbai Indians.

Telugu actor Vijay Devarakonda likens Pahalgam terror attack to ancient tribal clashes; complaint filed in Hyderabad

Tribal associations take serious objection to actor’s comments and condemn them

Lal Chauhan, a city-based lawyer, in his complaint alleged that the actor, who had recently attended the pre-release event of a Tamil movie starring actor Suriya Sivakumar as the chief guest, in his speech referring to the Pahalgam incident in Kashmir had remarked that the attacks were akin to the clashes involving tribal communities hundreds of years ago.

The SR Nagar police said necessary action as per law will be taken after a legal opinion on the complaint.

They alleged that Devarakonda’s statements demeaned them and demanded an immediate apology. Tribal associations have taken serious objection to the actor’s comments and condemned them.

‘No intent behind it’: Virat Kohli adresses social media buzz

Though the post was simple and harmless, it spread quickly on social media.

Hyderabad: Virat Kohli has broken his silence after a viral incident involving his Instagram account created a buzz online. The former Indian cricket team captain clarified that a recent “like” on a fan page post about actress Avneet Kaur was unintentional and caused by an algorithm error.

The issue started on May 2, when fans spotted Kohli’s official handle in the “likes” of a post featuring the actress. Though the post was simple and harmless, it spread quickly on social media. Some users even dragged his wife, Anushka Sharma, into the conversation, making baseless assumptions.

For those unfamiliar, Avneet Kaur is an Indian actress known for her roles in Hindi television and films. She gained fame through shows like Dance India Dance Li’l Masters, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5, Mardaani, Chandra Nandini, Aladdin – Naam Toh Suna Hoga, and most recently, Tiku Weds Sheru.

To put an end to the gossip, Kohli took to his Instagram Stories and gave a clear statement. He wrote:

“While clearing my feed, it appears the algorithm may have mistakenly registered an interaction. There was absolutely no intent behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made.”

He did not mention the actress or post directly, but his message was enough to calm the situation. The “like” has since been removed.

Such incidents are not new for celebrities, whose every move is closely watched online. Kohli’s calm and respectful response reminded fans not to jump to conclusions.

The Dos and Donts of the ‘Social Distancing’ Behavior

People live better in big houses and in big clothes. I try to contrast; life today is full of contrast. We have to change! I am not interested in the past, except as the road to the future. Give me time and I’ll give you a revolution. I think the idea of mixing luxury and mass-market fashion is very modern. I want people to be afraid of the women I dress.

Mass-market fashion is very modern

I think the idea of mixing luxury and, very now no one wears head-to-toe designer anymore. There has to be a balance between your mental satisfaction and the financial needs of your company. A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.
